the handsome sausage

the view into the canyon from the bridge on the way up

the sleeping giant formation, the lake, the crazy sky, and my cousin.

the view from the false cave, which is actually just a huge rock with a small waterfall coming down it.

on top of the false cave with a waterfall, where i seriously almost died because it was hard to get up there and back down.

sunset through an overcast sky that illuminated the clouds in a very strange way.

lucky cat!

i drew the lucky cat because i was excited today to find out that i'll be printing shirts at the denver post underground music showcase. i'll actually be printing in the bar...it should be interesting. i think it's totally doable, and i hope to make some cash...i figured out (shirts not included) that the post will make back it's investement after about 20 shirts, after that i'd be getting all the profits. crazy. i have a feeling we can do that, no problem, since there is supposed to be more than 500 people there, and the shirts will only be 10 bucks.

another awesome thing...i'm going to montana for a week on friday. we have a cabin up there, so i'll be driving with my mom to take my granny up there, then driving home with my mom, and leaving my granny there forever. or at least till my sister brings her back. it's confusing. i'll write postcards to people if you send me your address....maybe..assuming i can afford postcards. otherwise you'll just get a letter.

anyway, i have been redrawing the worms guys this evening, getting it ready to go on some screens. i'm really excited about this...i think it will be cool, and it will be a good way to get some publicity for the handsome sausage.

ACK! sorry, i tried drawing, but then i got caught up in looking for an american tie supply place. then the new chappelles show came on....HILARIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! so good. it was a little messed up how they treated it though, but still, the new sketches were so good.

anyway, more tomorrow.

i'm excited because i just printed custom text using a cut stencil and my water based inks....i'm just super super excited because all the pros were saying it wouldn't work, and that i should buy a heat transfer system (note: expensive) and quit using water based inks. i'd take a picture, but my sister took the camera. anyway, more on this awesome development later....i'm going to see if it will work with moveable type. BLIZOWWWWW!

P.S., i forgot to tell you what this means to the designs, and why i want to do it... well, i am working on the breakdancer tee shirt, and i was trying to figure out how to print custom names on the front of the shirt, like all the breakers had back in the late 70's and early 80's...

i didn't want to use the iron ons that they used, because they would not only peel, but they also just wouldn't fit with the rest of my printing. also, now i can print all those awesome text-only shirts that i have had people saying they wanted, without having to get a screen burned with just the text.

this one isn't as well done as usual. but the point gets across, i suppose.

anyway, today i worked on getting a list of what i need to get done, and getting a start on it. according to my list, i have between 6 and 9 designs in the works, plus one that is coming from damara (the destroyer) and possible a couple others from other artists. adding even 6 multi color designs kind of lessens my desire to have around 30 different designs, so most likely i'm going to drop between 6 and 10 of my single color designs from the site. i haven't decided if that means i'll reuse the screens or just library them for the future....who knows. thinking of the number of new screens i need to buy is scary.

other than that, i woke up late this morning because the dang power went out. well, it didn't go out, it went more....dim. the lights were not really working, but they were slightly glowing, and i tried to turn the tv on (i was still waking up, and for some reason i thought i'd check the time on the tv, since all the clocks were out...stupid) but the tv kept making wierd clicking noises, so i unplugged it.

other than that, i worked out, that was nice. i took two showers today, that was nice.

last night i watched half of dick tracy. that movie is pretty good visually, but it's pretty cheesy. i think it's about time they redo it and take it a little more seriously, but less than the new batman. so basically, as far as cheese goes, it should be like this: the newest batman<spiderman<the dick tracy movie they should make<xmen<the awful batman with george clooney< 3 dev adam (if you know that last one...you know why it is listed as the cheesyest) anyway, i have been thinking a lot about all my friends out in NY recently, so if you are reading this, contact me and tell me what you are up to.

today i tried to work lots on my jesus image. i got a lot done, but it still isn't done. i also had about a million distractions.

i went to the post office and the library too. that was nice, except it was wet out, so my bike got my butt all wet. gross.

last night i went to a show at le crunk. supposedly that was the last one. sad. hopefully joel gets on the booking thing and keeps the bands coming. also, i got to see joels room, which is a murder dungeon, except not really. it was actually pretty big, and if he follows through on half the plans he has, it'll look awesome.

i have the house all to myself...everyone thinks it's creepy to be the only one there...i think it's fine. i just sleep there and watch movies.

tomorrow is the fourth of july. it's kind of funny...the supposed strict restrictions on fireworks is just making everyone light off fireworks early...its been almost a week now that people have been lighting them off all evening. pretty stupid. not the people lighting them off, that's fine, just the idea that they are going to be cracking down. stupid. WOW! someone just lit off something that sounded like a mini cannon. it was a definite BOOM sound. awesome.

i was telling joel about these instruments i have been dreaming about. i have had several dreams recently where i was playing music..but i was telling him that because i know nothing about music, my brain had invented all these ways to do it. the first one was a simple wooden and peg board.

i would make several thin boards with pegs, so when i needed a chord, i would just push the board that would play the chord i needed. second, i had invented a drumming device that worked pretty similar to a music box.

the handle gets rotated, which rotates a drum that has flat metal pieces embedded in it. the metal pieces push down on the back of the drum stick, which is on a spring loaded fulcrum. when it is pressed, it raises up then slams back down onto the drum surface. like a music box, i could control number of hits at any time, and depending on how fast i turn the crank, the beat would go faster.

lastly, i dreamed i had made a giant...organ type thing. it was made of about 10 of these units:

each tape had a different loop on it. all of the boom boxes were set to the same loudness inside their buckets, and i would control the notes by covering and uncovering the holes on the side.

i tried making a loop tape today, based on some instructions i found on wikibooks. they were wrong...maybe it depends on the type of tape. anyway, i ended up making my own loop that worked, but it had a blank spot where i taped it. i don't know. oh, here is how making the tape went:

anyway, other than that, i worked on my press, sanded stuff and made the registration guides. everything fits together, but i need to adjust some of the distances to get things to work better. i am really happy with how things are coming though....to take the press i bought in the condition it was, and a month later it is almost functional. i'm really thankful ele welded the arms as quickly and well as he did, they work great. yay.

this drawing is a shout out in drawing form, to married in berdichev, for being inspiringly awesome live.

today i worked out in the hot hot sun on making the shirt boards for my screen press. my press is coming together nicely...i would think it will work perfectly. i need to work on the registration gates still, but after that and a bit of tuning, i'll be able to print things in color! shirts, posters, art, cats...anything.

i also took lots of breaks and drank lots of water. because it was hot.

last night i went to a show at a house. it was a house show. the bands that played were:

sandusky (they played keyboard with their feet, through ingenious taped things on. this is what separates us from monkeys.)
married in berdichev (i think i was the only one who enjoyed when the amp was messing up and making things electronicccccccsick. it was kind of neat.)
the kissing party (they played a very good rendition of one of their songs, which i do not know what it is called, but it was the best i have heard from them)
taught me (he sang very hard and very high.)
drew danburry (too cool for a band name, i suppose. also, he had fatal fury hats. wierd.)

anyway, the bike ride there (38th and federal, sort of) was TOUGH. it was all uphill after i crossed the park ave bridge. the ride home, however, was zippy and i don't think i pedaled till i got back under the underpass. it was neat.

TODAY! what did i do today....oh crap. i already messed up this journal entry.

i was happy that i remembered all the little bits that make up a lego man without looking. yay.

this was supposed to be a drawing of a muppet, but it came out looking like me eating, so i just made it a drawing of me as a muppet eating what i had for dinner.

today i woke up late. i haven't been able to get to sleep at a reasonable hour, since i am getting over being sick. i keep coughing everytime i almost fall asleep. it stinks. anyway, so i woke up late, then i got to work, then gabe bought a bunch of shirts, so i printed those, then i went back to work. later we all (izzymiguelabramgabeartemiome) went out to eat vietnamese food. it was good. almost all of us got items with the roasted pork in it, because it is just so dang delicious. i had pork spring rolls. mmm. then we came home, and i guess that's about it.

today i redrew the grasshopper, so he can be a shirt...i also have the jesus design about 80%, and i started redrawing the best friends forever..things are coming along ok, just slow. lots of interruptions. at least i got to pay my student loan this month.

which brings me to my next point...i think i have to get a very part time job somewhere, just to pay my student loan and the occasional concert trip. so i'll keep an eye out for anything just a couple days a week max.

that's it!
